Dr. Monica Herrera was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. She attended St. Mary’s University graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. She received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency at Texas Children’s Hospital, the largest children’s hospital in the nation.
Dr. Herrera knew she wanted to become a doctor at the age of 13 when a Pediatric surgeon saved her life due to a Ruptured Appendix. Although, she did not become a surgeon she enjoys all facets of General Pediatrics. She has been in practice for 25 years and continues to find her job very fulfilling. Her passion is to teach children and their families the importance of their well being. She focuses on the whole child- physical as well as the mental and emotional aspects. As an experienced pediatrician, she understands that each child and their family are unique, and require individualized care because she becomes part of their medical family.
Dr. Herrera is currently serving as Vice-Chairman for the Dept. of Pediatrics at Texas Health Frisco and in the past was Chairman of the Dept. of Pediatrics at Texas Health Plano.
Dr. Herrera is a parishioner at Prince of Peace Catholic Community. She likes to give back to her community by giving scholarships to children to attend Catholic School. She is currently Medical Director and on the Board for Birth Choice and in the past she served on the Board for the Catholic Foundation of Dallas.
Dr. Herrera is married and has 3 grown children. When she is not at work she enjoys running, going to concerts, practicing piano and spending time with her husband, 2 beagles and parrot .
Her mantra is, “My goal is to help kids live happy healthy lives!”
